Acid Stars and Skies. (part 3)
BY RICHARD TOLEDO
In the field they all split up. Galaxy, seemingly with a lot on her mind walked away and sat in the middle of the field. Hypno still on the phone sat on the log closest to him on the outside of the grass field. Leo, a warrior in his on right, leapt over the nearest fence and catapulted himself off of a log into a tree on the other side. Once comfortably on a branch he opened his back pack and took out a drink. This was an adventure of course, “Let’s spice things up a bit,” he thought, as a took a sip of his brew. Oh and we can’t forget the Jester who stood by Doly until the last minute when he decided to walk off to Galaxy, who was still sitting in the middle of the field contemplating something.
Doly stood there alone, wondering what everyone was doing; while at the same time still in the back of his mind were the words of Madam Polaris. At that moment he laid in the grass. Looked up at the sky saw all the stars… You know, as many as he could in the bright New York sky. Then he looked at the north star, it was so high up in the sky. How would he ever be so happy? Doly was the kind of guy who didn’t care much. Some one who was always laughing and had 100 percent of fun in every situation. Anytime someone tried to bring him down he’d pay no mind to them. They didn’t matter. The were irrelevant in his life. Why should he let them effect they was he feels? He then looked at the highest star in the sky one more time and sat down in the grass. He looked straight ahead and saw across the field a hill going upwards to the left. To the left also, a line of light poles on the hill also each a little higher up the hill toward the sky. There was a hill in front of it going uphill to the right, so at his angle the lights looked like a stair case to the sky. Of course this only looked like this to him, from any other angle in the field this looked different. The lights would have a different sequence from any other point of view. ”Hey, guys!”, he said, “I’m going to take a walk, I’ll be right back.” They all nodded at him as he walked off toward the lights. ”This is home.” He said to himself as he walked.
Leo finished his drinks. A bit tipsy, he swung off the branch of the tree and on to the log. Then once again jumped over the gate, and hit the obstacles in the field. A tree here, a log there, tho some seemed to appear out of nowhere, they were no match for him. Nothing stood in his way.
Hypno still on the phone, was talking to a significant other. Some one who finally understood what he did. Someone who loved life and all the little things that it came with. He smiled as he spoke of all the small things that expanded his mind and made him think deeper. Life wasn’t just about what lied on the surface to him, it went much deeper, and she understood.
The Jester spoke to Galaxy. It didn’t seem like there was anything wrong. But the Jester he was a man who had a clear mind, and someone who was a good decision maker. He thought things through and in the end hardly ever stumbled on a choice he made. He was the perfect man to speak to Galaxy; someone who road seemed to have been filled with barricades and road blocks. But his wisdom and sense of humor opened things up for her and in a bit she saw things clearer. Him? How did He feel? That’s a good question. The Jester never really did show much emotion.
They all went back to the middle of the field afterwards. Hypo was off the phone. Leo, tired and sweaty, was done with his games. The Jester and Galaxy had finished their conversation and were laughing at one of the Jester’s jokes. And Doly…? Good question. ”Where’s Doly, bro?” Asked Leo as he looked around. They had all been too caught up doing there own thing to realize that Doly had walked away. So they all sat down and talked amongst each other.
Doly walked toward the lights on the hill replaying what Madam Polaris had told him. As he got closer, instead of looking more and more like light poles those lights slowly took the shape of an orange stair case. When Doly finally got all the way there he realized that this indeed was a staircase and that Madam Polaris’ advice seemed a little bit easier to achieve than he thought it would be. He walked up the staircase to the sky and it glowed more and more with each step. He was nervous, this wasn’t by any means a normal occurrence. Up the staircase on the hill he went, higher and higher into the night sky. The staircase was glowing a bright white now as Doly was in the stars. He looked ahead at the staircase and it ended a few steps up. He ran up to it and sighed, and looked up. The highest star in the sky was right there! He reached for it and to his amazement it was at his finger tips but he could not reach it! For a second he was sad but then as he reached again, he looked down…and there were his friends under him sitting in the grass talking and laughing about everything they had realized that day. And at that moment he realized that the true happiness wasn’t in getting the star or getting the happiness; It was in learning how to reach the star but leaving it there for others to reach as well. Afterwards Doly ran back to his friends and enjoyed the rest of the night with them they were all happy.
Everyone has a different way to be happy. But the journey there is the same. Once we learn how to reach that happiness we can’t hoard it for ourselves, we have to help other people get there too. We have to be their shooting star.
